Inle Lake and Indein Village

Our day started with a excellent breakfast. Kat and I both liked Myanmar food, preferring the Mohinga a fish soup with rice noodles or a mixed noodle dish over the our usual granola, yogurt and fruit. Many of our hotels had good breakfast buffets.

Our travel plans for the day included a trip to Indien village located up a narrow canal with 1054 stupas. We hiked around the site. Te was apologetic about the conditions of the stupas telling us that it was disgraceful that they had been allowed to fall into such disrepair. For me the location had an Indiana Jones like feel. I kept wondering when we were going to find a secret entrance or some sort of archeological wonder.

From  the village we headed out to the Jumping Cat monastery, which had some cool old stuff and a few cats, none of which jumped.

We tried leg paddling with little success. The fellow in the photo below was moving that boat with one arm and one leg. We had to resort to a jay stroke.

That evening Te invited us over to his house for tealeaf salad and to meet his family. He lives with his mother, father, two sisters, wife May and baby Giaimo. They have a comfortable two story home and his Mom makes excellent tealeaf salad. One of the nicest things about this trip has been the opportunity to get to know our guides and to be exposed (even briefly) to their families and lives.
