House Construction 4/23 - 5/14

Home improvements may not usually count as an adventure but this involved climbing and cutting down an 80 foot 75 year old Sitka spruce tree. Mike Tetreau was the lumberjack while I belayed him. Other projects this spring included replacing the back deck, painting the Yakshak interior, building a new kayak rack, updating our water system with a constant water pressure tank and installing 2 new toilets.

Mike’s skills are not limited to construction and home improvements. For many years he was the chief resource ranger for Kenai Fjords National Park. Sunny Cove is fortunate to have Mike extensive experience and expertise on hand during our training and to handle all of our construction needs. Many of Sunny Coves staff are like Mike, multi talented individuals attracted to the beauty and power of this place. Upon completion of our projects Mike headed home to Washington to pack for a trip to a remote region in Tibet to search for ice worms.
